NWCLA Meeting Program for 2010

Montachusett Opportunity Council (MOC) is the designated community action, anti-poverty agency for the North Central region of Massachusetts. Last year, MOC provided services in 30 communities and served over 20,000 individuals. MOC delivers a variety of services including childcare, education, workforce development, nutrition, health, community services, asset development, energy and housing services. Specifically, MOC provides a number of programs that addresses both the housing needs as well as the condition of the housing stock in the region.

Brian Lucier of Lucier Illustration & Design (also our organization's president) will be presenting to our members the changes in the new 2010 NWCLA web site as well as walking through how-to download the online NWCLA newsletters, eviction lists, and drug arrest lists. He will be discussing the NWCLA web site community features and the login process. Brian will also be answering all of your online marketing questions including SEO (Search Engine Optimization), putting your ads on Craigslist, and utilizing sites like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and LinkedIn to get your listings noticed.

March’s meeting guest speaker will be Raymond Gonzales. Raymond is a local constable and is a skillful mediator between tenants and landlords. Ray will also be discussing the eviction move out do's and don'ts as well as what is required to keep landlords out of trouble when the have an execution order.

April’s meeting will feature attorney Michael J. Ciota. Michael has been our long time NWCLA association legal advisor, and will be discussing with us recent new housing laws that effect us as landlords and offering legal advice in our open question and answer forum.


May13, 2010
Worcester Housing Court
May's meeting will feature representatives from housing court that will address our landlord/tenant questions in a casual open forum. Here we will find out what is acceptable, what is not, and what we could be doing better as Massachusetts landlords going into housing court.


June 10, 2010
Ed Nowak of JEES, Inc will be our guest speaker in June. The focus of this training will be providing ways for landlords to recognize and handle asbestos containing materials and mold contamination. The session will also include information on ways to prevent moisture intrusion and condensation problems from occurring that can result in mold growth and/or degradation of building materials. Ed will provide handouts containing a primer on both asbestos and mold contamination broken down by building areas such as attics, bathrooms and basements.
